Car tyres being damaged on Laois road

Tyre slashing incident in Ballybofey - garda appeal

A raised manhole cover that damaged tyres on a Laois road has been repaired, a recent meeting was told.

Cllr Paschal McEvoy raised the issue at the latest Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District Meeting.

He had a motion asking: “That this Council carry out an inspection of a manhole at Timogue Cross, Stradbally as it is causing damage to motorists’ tyres.”

In a written response,  Assistant Senior Engineer at Water Services, Trevor Hennessy said: “The Water Services Crew has investigated this complaint and I can advise that the problem will be rectified and repaired tomorrow.”

Cllr McEvoy said he believed the work may already be done. “The manhole is about eight inches off the road. It was brought to my attention recently” he explained.

“It is after destroying an awful lot of tyres..to be fair you dealt with it straight away and I appreciate that,” said Cllr McEvoy.
