Issue raised with officials at County Hall Portlaoise
Flooding problems and sight restrictions for walkers need to be addressed on a stretch of road in Camross, Laois County Council has been told.
Cllr Conor Bergin, Fine Gael, called on Laois County Council to act on the problems at Garrafin.
He tabled a motion at a recent meeting asking the local council to address the flooding issues at Garrafin Bridge. He also wants visibility improved for pedestrians walking on the L-10314 road at Garrafin, coming from Longford Hill.
He said a small river in the area is causing flooding problems.
On the walking problem he said the road has become very popular as it is relatively safe. However, he said there is no space for walkers.
“People are walking this route every day but there is nowhere to stand in when cars come,” he said.
He said a landowner is prepared to give some land to create a verge for walkers to stand in safely.
In a written reply, Mr. Edmond Kenny, District Engineer, said the Council would inspect the existing drainage infrastructure at the bridge to determine the cause of the flooding issues.
He added that a meeting will be arranged with the Cllr Bergin at the site to review the needs of the pedestrians.
The issue was raised at the December meeting of the Borris-in-Ossory Mountmellick Municipal District in County Hall Portlaoise
