Appeal made to Laois County Council management by councillor.

A bridge over troubled waters in the Camross area needs to be fixed due to flooding that is causing problems for local residents.

So says Cllr Conor Bergin, Fine Gael, who raised the issue with Laois County Council at a recent meeting.

Cllr Bergin tabled a motion calling on the local authority to carry out repairs to the bridge on the L-10304 at Longford. He also wants them to address the drainage issues on the lane for residents.

He said there are a lot of people living on Longford Lane which is also busy with traffic.

Cllr Bergin said the bridge was damaged a couple of years ago and needed to be repaired. Along with this he said a drain has been filling up and has caused flooding during heavy rain.

“I know there are a lot of bridges over troubled waters but I would like to see something done with this one,” he said.

Mr. Edmond Kenny, District Engineer, replied that a bridge inspection would be undertaken to confirm the condition of the structure. He added that the drainage issues will be addressed in the coming weeks.

The issue was raised at the recent meeting of Borris-in-Ossory Mountmellick Municipal District.
