Sheemore
Cllr Paddy Farrell has called on the Council to outline what is the situation with funding for the development at Sheemore in relation to the provision of car parking and drainage.
Addressing the recent Carrick-on-Shannon Municipal District meeting he said he is disappointed that at the start of a busy tourist season there is no car park for visitors and he hoped that funding could be sourced for both a car park and drainage.
A reply from Joseph Gilhooly, Director of Services for Economic Development, Planning, Environment and Transportation, stated, “The original funding for this project was used on the development of the walking route from Leitrim Village to Sheemore.
“We will need to submit a new application for funding for the completion of the car park. This can be arranged once all landowner issues have been resolved with regard to the location of the new car park.”
Bernard Greene, Senior Planner, added that some discussions have taken place with the landowner and once resolved, they will apply for funding under the Outdoor Recreation Scheme.
Cllr Farrell welcomed the reply and the motion was supported by all local councillors.
