Calls to clean up People's Park

Carrick Campus

Carrick Campus

Why have we allowed People’s Park to become overgrown was the question from Cllr Enda Stenson, who chaired the recent Carrick-on-Shannon Municipal District meeting.
Cllr Stenson said that from the Tesco roundabout to the school roundabout, the park has become totally overgrown and asked, "are there any plans to manage this ground?"
Leitrim County Council District Engineer, Darragh O'Boyle responded that the Council had purchased the MBNA/Carrick Campus building as well as the park however a section of the land has been retained by the owner.
He said that if the land doesn't interfere with road users, under the Road Act, the council have no authority to compel the owner to maintain the area however he said he could make a request to the owner, on behalf of the Tidy Towns.

Cllr Finola Armstrong-McGuire supported the motion as did Cllr Sean McGowan.
