Bus shelters and traffic calming in Glenfarne village

Bus shelters and traffic calming in Glenfarne village

Cllr Sean McDermott

Cllr Sean McDermott asked for an update on providing a bus shelter at Glenfarne Post Office and also asked about having traffic calming measures introduced at the same location.Cllr Felim Gurn supported the motion saying he's observed people speeding at the location "and heavy duty vehicles parking there" adding that "at this time of year with the weather, people standing outside badly need a bus shelter."
Cllr Frank Dolan said there is a need for bus shelters throughout the county with Cllr Mary Bohan adding that extra bus services now operating, more shelters were a necessity.
"I see people in Drumkeeran at 7am standing out in the rain and I think it's essential that we have bus shelters," she said.
Cllr Padraig Fallon said "there are significant volumes of traffic parking there that need to come back out onto the road" and said a "solution needs to be found."
A report by the Roads office advised that tenders have been received for the installation of bus shelters and the successful contractor has been identified.
NTA approval has been granted for the eastbound shelter in Glenfarne but Leitirm County Council is currently waiting on TII approval before construction can commence.
Installation of the westbound shelter will be progressed in conjunction with any safety measures carried out at this location.
The TII has approved the Feasibility and Options report and the design will be progressed going forward.
