Lift for Dromod Station a priority
Cllr Sean McGowan asked for the support of the members of Carrick-on-Shannon Municipal District in calling on Mr Jim Meade, Chief Executive of Iarnród Éireann, to provide a time frame for the installation of the new footbridge and passenger lift at Dromod train station.
"These improvements to the station’s facilities have been committed to by Iarnród Éireann for the past 18 months, but to date there has been no planning application submitted or a timeline of when the works will commence," Cllr McGowan said.
He said that the Dromod station is "a hugely busy station" and it is "difficult, especially for older people, to cross from one platform to the other.
He said while there is a commitment to install the new infrastructure, he wanted to "try and get them to speed up the process; they have to put in an application for planning and it hasn't arrived yet."
Chair of the meeting, Cllr Enda Stenson supported the motion as did Cllr Des Guckian who said "we should keep after them."
