RIP: Community mourns 'a hardworking lady in her restaurant on Main Street in Carrick-on-Shannon'

Marciana (Marcie) O’ Brien (Née O’ Dowd), Farnagh, Leitrim P.O, Carrick-on-Shannon

There has been an outpouring of love and support after the death of Marciana (Marcie) O’ Brien (Née O’ Dowd), Farnagh, Leitrim P.O, Carrick-on-Shannon, Leitrim and formerly Knockadalteen, Co. Roscommon on 20th February (peacefully) at her home in the loving care of her family.

Pre-deceased by her husband Liam, and her parents Frank and Maureen, Marciana will be sadly missed and remembered with love by her loving family, daughters Marese, Deirdre, Catriona and Sinéad, sons Declan, Francis and Liam, sons-in-law Gerry, Hugh, Frank and Micheal, daughters-in-law Dympna and Patricia.

Adored grandchildren Liam, Amy, Nicole, Jessica, Aoife, Seán, Saoirse, Aoibheánn, Grace and Darragh, sister Phyllis, brothers Michael, JP, Frank, Tommy, Alo and Vincent, brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends

Mass of Christian burial on Tuesday 24th at 12 o’clock in St. Mary’s Church followed by burial in Jamestown cemetery.

Among the comments was one that spoke of how Marciana had a "brilliant energy, hard working, loving and Marcie's generosity knew no bounds. Marcie loved the craic of which we had lots in the Soda Fountain and bull sales."

Another read: "She was was such a kind lady to my mother Kate many years ago in her cafe. She was a remarkable woman, truly one of a kind, she will be sadly missed by all."

Another spoke of having "the fondest memories of heading to the Soda Fountain after school; always the loveliest friendly welcome awaited. Beautiful food served from the smallest kitchen."

A loving relative spoke of how how Marciana was "such a strong, bright, funny and inspirational lady. My childhood memories are full of Marcie’s glory days in Rinn: the adventures, the laughter and the hard work. Quick-witted and generous, she left her mark on those of us who were privileged to call her our cousin."

One comment applauded her strong work ethic. "My deepest sympathy to the O'Brien family and the extended O'Dowd family on the death of Marciana O'Brien. May she rest in piece; a hardworking lady in her restaurant on Main Street, Carrick-on-Shannon."
