Homes still without electricity in Killarga area
Three storms hit Leitrim at the weekend leaving in their wake snow, floods and wind damage.
While over 1700 households were affected by power cuts in Leitrim over the weekend, around 25 homes in Killarga, located between Drumkeerin and Dromahair have been “left in the dark” with no power since after midnight on Sunday and no word when they will get turned back on.
Hubert McHugh, local resident informed the Leitrim Observer Tuesday afternoon that they were “clearing out fridges and freezers” after the food had been left too long. But he said the major issue was the lack of heating for elderly residents. He also noted some people rely on electricity for oxygen machines and sleep apnea monitors.
He said they could not get any information from the ESB about what was taking so long and when they will be restored.
Yesterday ESB said they hoped to have all homes in Leitrim back with power at 6pm, but today that deadline has been moved to 6pm this evening. Hubert McHugh said they cannot get any confirmation of what the problem is or when it will be fixed.
