HEARTFELT tributes have been paid to late “true gentleman” and “Limerick supporter” Patrick ‘Idy’ O’Halloran.

Surrounded by his loving family, he passed at his residence last week.

Originally of Canon Breen Park in Thomondgate, Patrick worked at the Limerick Docks and took “great pride” in being “one of the old Limerick dockers.”

Described as a “true gentleman” and a “gentle soul,” the Munster fan was known for decking his house in colours with flags.

“Limerick boxing was saddened to hear of the death of Patrick (Idy) O'Halloran.

The O'Halloran family is steeped in St Munchin's boxing club’s history with Idy’s sons, nephews and grandsons all boxing for the Thomondgate club over the last 40 years and are currently running the club. May He Rest in Peace,” posted Limerick boxing on Facebook.

“Sincere condolences to the O Halloran family on the sad loss of Paddy. A true Limerick supporter, it was great always to see the flags and bunting out. Ar dheis dhé go raibh a hanam,” wrote Paul Foley of Limerick GAA in tribute.

“Our deepest sympathy to MaryAnn and all the O'Halloran family on the sad passing of Paddy. A true gentleman, a great Limerick Gael and Munster fan. Used to love to see yer house decked out in our colours. May his gentle soul rest in peace,” said Christine and Clement O’Donogue of Mungret Village.

Patrick will be very deeply regretted by his heartbroken wife Mary Ann, sons, daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister, nephews, nieces, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, close friend Paddy Bennis, neighbours and a large circle of friends.

His funeral took place yesterday at St Munchin's Church with burial afterwards at Mount St Lawrence Cemetery.
