TG4 duo ensuring Limerick is front and centre in Irish news

Nuacht Cúla4 returns with a blend of local pride and national storytelling

TG4 duo ensuring Limerick is front and centre of the news

Katelyn Hayes and Áine Humphreys helping to inspire the next generation of Irish speakers

TWO LIMERICK women are making waves in Irish-language media as Nuacht Cúla4, the daily news service for young audiences, welcomes a new season.

The TG4 programme is celebrating the return of editor and newsreader Katelyn Hayes from Carrigkerry, who continues in her vital role as editor and producer.

Katelyn, a former student of Carrigkerry National School and Scoil Mhuire agus Íde, has been a driving force behind the success of Nuacht Cúla4 since its inception.

After completing a degree in Mathematics and Irish, followed by a Master’s in Media Studies at the University of Galway, Katelyn has carved out a respected space in Irish-language broadcasting.

Known for her storytelling skills and strong connection to her roots, she often credits her grandmother Annie as a key inspiration.

Katelyn also brings her passion for sport to her work, especially ladies football, and last year had the honour of commentating from Croke Park. Her voice and vision continue to shape how young people connect with the news in Irish.

Joining her on the team this year is another Limerick native, Áine Humphreys from Meanus.

A former student of Crecora National School and Laurel Hill Coláiste, Áine holds a degree in Gaeilge and Music from UCC and a Master’s in Education from the University of Galway.

In 2024, Áine was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship, spending time in the United States teaching Irish at the University of Montana.

Her passion for Irish language, music, and culture runs deep. A harpist and traditional music lover, she’s also a dedicated Limerick GAA supporter and has played camogie both locally and abroad.

With local talent like Katelyn and Áine at its heart, Nuacht Cúla4 continues to deliver accessible, engaging news that inspires the next generation of Irish speakers.

The future of Irish-language journalism looks bright and with a strong Limerick influence.

Nuacht Cúla4 returns for its third season, on Cúla4 at 1:30pm and again at 5:30pm. Catch it every week from Tuesday to Friday on TG4.
