GARDAÍ are investigating two overnight thefts from farmyards in the Granagh and Meanus areas, during which tools, farm equipment and diesel were stolen.

Sergeant Michelle O’Halloran, Crime Prevention Officer at Henry Street Garda Station said: "In the early hours of Tuesday, the 4th of November — sometime between 1 and 4 am — entry was gained to a farmyard in the Kilmore area of Granagh. A large number of tools and pieces of farm equipment were taken."

"Later that same night, another farmyard in Meanus was accessed. In that case, the farmer discovered that diesel and more equipment had been stolen from a shed."

Gardaí in Croom are investigating both incidents. They would like to hear from anyone who may have been out and about in either area around that time and saw anything unusual — strange vehicles, lights, or something that did not sit right with them. You can contact Croom Garda Station on 061 397240, or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.

The local crime prevention officer added: "There are a few practical steps that make a big difference. First off, lock and
secure all sheds and outbuildings, especially overnight. Good lighting and strong locks can really deter thieves."

"It’s also a good idea to mark your tools and machinery with unique ID, and to take a photograph of equipment/machinery and keep a list of serial numbers. If something is stolen, that information helps us track it down."

Sgt O'Halloran concluded: "I’d say to all farmers — keep an eye out for one another. If you see a strange van or someone hanging around a gate, take note of the registration and contact your local Gardai – this may assist in preventing crime or assist investigation team in solving a crime."
