THE 2025 Limerick Yearbook is on sale now - a festive must-have capturing a year of achievements, milestones, and memorable moments across the city and county.

The year roared in like a lion, bringing some of the harshest weather Limerick had seen in years.

Who can forget the “vicious” cold snap in the second week of January which saw temperatures plunge to -8°C, following 14 inches of snow in some areas?

The final week of the month brought hurricane-force winds under a Status Red weather warning, yet life continued.

Spring brought brighter days. Limerick’s football team clinched a thrilling Allianz Division 4 National Football League final victory over Wexford in March, while 24-year-old Olivia Humphreys from Pallasgreen was named Limerick Person of the Year for her extraordinary contributions to healthcare.

April saw the death of Pope Francis, prompting locals to reflect on personal encounters with the pontiff, including one memorable meeting recounted by a local man.

President Michael D. Higgins, at the National Famine Commemoration in Kilmallock in May, made a passionate plea “that we all work together for lasting peace and for an end to global hunger and famine.”

Summer brought vibrancy with Riverfest and Limerick Pride, while September saw a Kilmallock man, and Traitor, capture national attention with his now-iconic line: “I’m not being smart here, but I am not a f****** hugger.”

October and November brought further drama with a Christmas in Limerick controversy, featuring Mayor John Moran and the director general of the council, Dr. Pat Daly, as chief protagonists.

As 2025 draws to a close, we look forward to the festive season, featuring a full listing of Christmas and New Year events, as well as a glimpse of what 2026 has in store.
