Seachtain na Gaeilge

The Seachtain na Gaeilge festival in Limerick runs until March 20

TO CELEBRATE the Irish language this Seachtain na Gaeilge, people are being urged to consider speaking as Gaeilge while doing fun and novel activities.

As part of the 2026 Seachtain na Gaeilge, which runs until March 20, there are roller skating events, pilates, traditional music sessions and book clubs - all with the aim of encouraging people to speak more Irish.

Comhluadar Luimnigh is in collaboration with local community groups and partners such as Limerick City and County Council, Foras na Gaeilge and Conradh na Gaeilge.

Denis Kelly from Comhluadar Luimnigh said: “While roller skating or zumba might not spring to mind when someone thinks of Irish, Irish language events should be attractive in themselves, a space to relax and meet new friends.”

With sean-nós singing workshops, talks on Limerick place names in the Hunt Museum, and a book club, the eclectic programme of exciting events planned for county Limerick reflects this broad vision.

On Thursday, March 5, young people aged between nine and 12 are invited to take to the skating rink in Roller Jam as Gaeilge.

There is also a pilates and coffee session at the Parkway Shopping Centre on Friday, March 6.

For families, on Saturday, March 7, there is an interactive STEM session at the craft maker space in Mary Immaculate College.

Other highlights include an Irish storytelling session in Adare Library, a Club Gaeilge in Ahane and a puppet show in the Parkway Shopping Centre.

Ava Nic Searraigh from Comhluadar Luimnigh said: “This year's programme shows that Irish is a vibrant language in our communities, bringing families and communities and new friends together.

“Whether you are a fluent speaker or a learner who just wants to get involved for the first time, there is an event for everyone, here in the city and across the county.”

Information on all of the events can be found on the Comhluadar Luimnigh website: www.comhluadarluimnigh.ie.
