Jan Bartels is a well-respected Martial Arts Grand Master and instructor with decades of experience and knowledge in several martial arts, including Taekwondo and Hapkido. Master Jan has been teaching Taekwondo for over 52 years, including being the first person to introduce the South Korea martial art to Belgium and Moscow.
In 1979 he moved to Ireland and settled in Longford where he has been teaching Taekwondo for over 40 years with schools in Longford, Cavan, Roscommon, Ballinahown and Killeshandra. He was the first none South Korea to become an international WTF referee and was made
President of the Chang Moo Kwon Ireland in 1989 a position he still holds to this day. Master Jan was awarded 9th dan recently which is a remarkable achievement. This level of mastery takes years of dedicated practice, hard work, and unwavering commitment.
His passion for his craft has undoubtedly paid off, and his perseverance has led him to the pinnacle of his art. His accomplishment serves as an inspiration to all of us and is a testament to his unwavering dedication. Reaching his 9th dan is a true reflection of his exceptional skills and commitment to Taekwondo.
Unfortunately, when the Covid pandemic started it brought a stop to all training which saw some of Master Jan’s Taekwondo schools close.
Master Jan continues to teach every Thursday in Lisduff, Longford from 7:30 to 9pm and the Scouts Hall, Cavan every Tuesday from 6:30 to 8pm. For more information 087-235 2465.
