Tributes paid to 'kind' volunteer found dead after missing persons search
Tributes have been paid after the sad death of Roscommon volunteer Niamh Hand whose body was found on Saturday after a missing persons alert and search.
Niamh was a volunteer with the People Helping People group which works to support homeless families and people in emergency accommodation. The group is based in Roscommon.
The group were the first to pay tribute to Niamh after her body was found on Saturday. Group founder Donna Fahy said: "It is with a heavy heart that we have the heart breaking news that Niamh’s search has been stood down. thank you to everyone for sharing the posts. Niamh was one of a kind and the most beautiful caring person and I’m so glad we had the pleasure of knowing her and working one side of her.
"We as a group are devastated and heartbroken for her family friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with them all at this difficult time. We will be closing the group for the weekend as mark of respect. Rip Niamh Hand, hope you have the best bed in heaven."
Further tributes were paid over the weekend. Another read: "That's awful news, saddened to hear this. Niamh, you were the kindest lady, so so sorry for your family's loss. May your kind soul get the best bed in heaven."
A third tribute read: "Such heartbreaking news, Niamh was a lovely, warm, kind and caring person. She always had a beautiful smile. Thinking of all her family, I can't imagine what they are going through. RIP Niamh, I hope you are at peace."
