Longford Planning: Rhyne Rock resubmit quarry plans

Longford County Council have received a planning application for a quarry development located in the townlands of Rhine, Killoe, Longford.

Blessington Stone & Concrete Plant Hire Limited, trading as Rhyne Rock, have lodged plans seeking permission for rock blasting and the creation of a concrete plant on the Rhine site.

the plans include permission to extract rock by blasting across a 14 hectare area.

The proposed development would consist of work over a total area of 18.6 hectares. This breaks down to the extraction of rock by blasting from an area of approximately 14.2 hectares and the erection of a concrete batching plant, processing plant, block yard, storage sheds, workshop, office buildings, weighbridge, wheelwash, settlement lagoon and all other associated ancillary facilities at the proposed manufacturing area.

A concrete batching plant is the equipment that combines various ingredients to form concrete.
The application also covers landscaping and entrance and access road
The planning permission is sought for a 25 year period and is accompanied by an Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIAR) and a Natura Impact Statement (NIS).

The same plans were lodged in January of last year, but were withdrawn as an incomplete application. The Longford County Council planners received the application this week and anticipate reaching a decision by September 11.
