Longford District Court hears teen pleading not guilty to train station assault

A 17 year-old teenager charged with the assault of a boy of the same age in Edgeworthstown last year is pleading not guilty and the case will be heard next month.

The defendant, who cannot be named due to his age and is currently at Oberstown Children Detention Campus, appeared via video link before Judge Bernadette Owens at Longford District Court. The accused was previously charged with the section three assault of a teenager near Edgeworthstown train station, resulting in his hospitalisation on April 6, 2024.

The court heard the case was likely to take one-to-two hours to be heard. At a previous preliminary hearing, Detective Garda Orla Geraghty gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution and told the court that the accused made no reply to the charges. The teen defendant was remanded in custody until Tuesday, March 26.
