Jon Kenny performs new show 'Tall Tales & Stories Of D’unexpected and Other Lies' on Saturday 28 January at Dundalk Gaol
Showcasing the rich musical talent of our county, harpist Rachael Dooley will support comedian Jon Kenny at his upcoming show in the Oriel Centre, Dundalk Gaol on Saturday 28th January.
The Oriel Centre at Dundalk Gaol says it is excited to welcome Jon Kenny, with his show "Tall Tales & Stories Of D’unexpected and Other Lies”, a show created from Jon’s memoir which he began to work on during lock down.
As Jon says “After two years and a bit in solitary confinement and not being within an ass’s roar of fellow mad souls bar myself, it's time for me to let off a bit of steam, let my feckin flowing locks down me back and have a bit of craic!”
"Tall Tales & Stories Of D’unexpected and Other Lies” is a look back through story, song and writing at all the weird and wonderful crazy times that were part of his life - from touring with his band from Effin to Abbey Road, running off with a dance company, singing ballads in Zambia, performing in Moscow, gowling around in Galbally, acting the flute in Finore and knowing no matter where you were in the world you couldn't throw a stone without hitting an Irish man!
This will be a rare opportunity to see Jon Kenny perform in such an intimate venue and sharing the stage with such a young talented musician as Rachael Dooley.
From a musical family, Rachael Dooley has been surrounded by traditional music and musicians from a young age. Her love of the Irish harp started at the age of 6, and she continues to work on developing her own distinctive style on the instrument while competing successfully in various Fleadhs nationally.
A willing student of Comhaltas Ceoltoirí Éireann, Rachael also plays with Music Generation Louth Harp Ensemble, as well as performing with Nós Nua Youth Folk Orchestra at the National Concert Hall.
No stranger to television, as part of Nós Nua Youth Folk Orchestra, Rachael has performed on Fleadh TV for President Michael D. Higgins during Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Drogheda, on TG4’s Leinster Fleadh programme, on Creedon’s Atlas of Ireland and The Ray Darcy Show. She has also performed TG4’s Fleadhfest series with her own musical family.
Tickets for this show are extremely limited and are available from www.orielcentre.ie or from reception in the Oriel Centre.
