Mannan Castle Golf Course
There was a spring feel to the weather during recent play at Mannan Castle, and it showed with the course being so busy.
Two shots separated 10 players in Division 1, with Derek Yorke coming out on top with 29pts. Derek finished his round with seven straight pars, beating Shane Donahue by one shot.
Division 2 was won by Trevor Markey. Having grown up just a stone’s throw from the course, Trevor showed his knowledge for Mannan with two birdies on his way to 31pts, beating Noel Gartlan who had 30pts.
Something you don’t see too often happened in Division 3. Patrick Darby scored an incredible 38pts for 13 holes. He started fast with a two at the first and continued his brilliant round, finishing with back-to-back pars. Kenneth Devlin finished second with a great score of 33pts.
Spring League Week 3 Stableford 13 Holes 11th-12th February: Div 1 - Derek Yorke (PH. 11) - 29pts, Div 2 - Trevor Markey (PH. 15) - 31pts, Div 3 - Patrick Darby (PH. 24) - 38pts.
MANNAN CASTLE SENIORS
It may have been St Valentine's Day, but that didn't stop a large number of seniors turning up for their weekly competition. Playing conditions were ideal for big scores and so it proved on the day.
Graeme Woodcock may have had two 1-pointers on his card but two birdies for four points each and four 3-pointers resulted in an excellent score of 32 points and victory overall for the 13 holes.
In category 1, Richard Mulholland had a flying start, accumulating 18 points in his first six holes before a hiccup on holes seven and eight. He got his round back on track with a par on nine before a par-par finish to card 30 points.
In category 2, it took a countback to separate Sean Harvey and Tom Fox. Despite Tom having birdies on holes nine and 10 for nine points, Sean's five 3-pointers in the last six holes proved decisive.
Result Tuesday 14th February 13 holes (full handicap): Overall: Graeme Woodcock (20) 32pts. Category 1: Richard Mulholland (15) 30pts. Category 2: Sean Harvey (22) 31pts.
MANNAN CASTLE LADIES
It is the third week of our winter league, and the scores were just fantastic. But it's Angela Evers who is the top lady, with a fabulous score of 28pts, which was two shots better than the rest of the field.
Angela did very little wrong and obviously did a lot right. This lady can definitely hit a golf ball and I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more of her in the winners enclosure this year.
We had three ladies tied on 26pts, but Ann Feeney claimed second place, beating Marie Finnegan on the count back of the last six holes. Great to see Anne back in the winning circle. I’m sure we’ll see her playing off a much lower handicap before the year is out.
The third-place finisher didn’t even score at the first hole, but Marie Finnegan made up for that with a birdie on the third hole, and a par-par finish on 12th and 13th holes. Marie beat Louise Hanratty on the countback, another lady having a good year so far.
Congratulations to our winners. It's great to see so many ladies playing in our weekly competition.
Week 3 Ladies Spring League: 13 Hole Weekly Competition 15th February: 1st Angela Evers (27) 28pts, 2nd Anne Feeney (41) 26pts c/b, 3rd Marie Finnegan (12) 26pts c/b.
