Bellingham Castle
Planning permission is being sought for short term letting holiday homes at the Bellingham Estate in Castlebellingham, Co Louth.
Des and Margot Meehan have applied to Louth County Council for retained planning permission for the of change of use from dwelling to short term and holiday letting in relation to three dwellings at the estate.
One of the dwellings forms part of the curtilage of a Protected Structure, listed as LHS 015-004, in Louth County Council's Record of Protected Structures.
According to the Record of Protected Structures, the building is a "Detached five-bay two-storey former stableyard, built
c. 1730, now used as outbuildings to hotel. Originally U-plan, courtyard infilled with single-storey lean-to buildings, single-bay central pedimented breakfront."
In its appraisal it says that "this stable block, though no longer connected to the house, is important structure within the historical context of the estate village. The basic form and some details such as sash windows and colonnetted windows on the
east elevation are of particular interest."
A decision is due on the application by 17 April 2023.
