 Sean was a dearly loved father and grandfather and proud Dundalk man

The death has taken place of Mr. Sean McLoughlin, Glenwood, Dublin Road, Dundalk on 25th January 2023.

Sean passed away peacefully in the Louth County Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

The funeral service took place in St. Fursey’s church, Haggartstown, Dundalk.

Requiem mass was celebrated by Fr Gerry Campbell, Fr Brian McCreesh and Deacon Martin Cunningham. Burial followed in the adjoining cemetery.

Sean leaves behind his devoted children John, Anne, Jean, Barbara, Kathleen, and James. Sons and daughters in law, Tara, Martin, Jamie, John, and Veronica, and dearly loved grandchildren Sean, Morgan, Ciara, Jack, Tom, Emilia, Caitlin, Sydney, Aoife, John, Niamh, Cara, Eoin, Riley, Ella, James, Lucy, Daisy, Saibh, and Adam, Sean’s cousins, nieces and nephews and large family circle.

Sean was born in Kells, County Meath on the 4th August 1934, to parents John and Annie.

He was the eldest of two sons and was predeceased by his brother, Raymond.

After leaving school Sean studied electrical engineering and set up his business, Universal Television and Radio in Park Street Dundalk.

Sean enjoyed many successful years in business, supporting his family and supplying the people of Dundalk with TV’s, aerials, radios, and video recorders.

Sean was well known for his caring and friendly nature, he developed a love for his adopted town and its people, which was reciprocated by his customers, friends, and neighbours.

Sean met his wife Rita in Dundalk, and they were married on the 25th August 1969.

They were married for over 30 years until the untimely passing of Rita in 2003.

They raised six children together and their home in Glenwood was always a friendly and welcoming place for family, friends, and neighbours, all of whom express fond memories of their hospitality and willingness to help others.

Sean’s priority in life was his family, he worked hard to support and encourage them to study and work hard themselves.

He was deeply proud of his wife Rita, his children and grandchildren and expressed this often.

Sean had a remarkably positive attitude towards life, he was resilient, spirited, and warm hearted.

He loved people and was a great listener, and teller of, stories, people said you always left his company feeling better, his good natured-ness was infectious. He will be sorely missed.

John, Anne, Jean, Barbara, Kathleen, James, and the extended McLoughlin family wish to express their sincerest thanks to all those who sympathised with them and offered their support and kindness during the recent sad loss of their father, Sean.

We are deeply grateful to the staff of The Lourdes and The Louth Hospitals for their professional care, dedicated support and kindness to Sean and his family during his very short illness. We wish to extend special thanks to Dr. Michelle Vigliotta and The Square Medical Practice Dundalk.

A special word of appreciation to Fr Gerry Campbell and the rest of the clergy members for their prayers, support and the compassionate and touching funeral mass, and to Gerry and Geraldine Simpson for the exceptional music and hymns throughout.

Special thanks to all those who contributed to the celebration of Sean’s life at the funeral service including Sean’s beloved grandchildren, Riley, Lucy, Saibh, and Adam who presented symbols in memorandum of Sean’s life.

Ciara and Emilia who did the readings, Aoife, Niamh, Cara, Ella and Daisy who read the prayers of the faithful, Tom and James who presented the Offertory gifts, to John who served on the Altar and to Sean, Morgan, Jack, Syd, Eoin who acted as pallbearers for their granda.

The family wish to extent special thanks to McGeoughs Funeral Directors for the caring, dignified and professional manner in which the funeral was carried out.

Finally, the McLoughlin family wish to express their heartfelt gratitude to our extended families, to Dad’s treasured friends and relatives, to our kind neighbours and to all who spent time with us, forwarded flowers, cards and gifts and shared stories and memories of our dear father.

It was a fitting tribute to a long life well lived.
