Rory Lennon, who finished third in the Mannan Castle Spring League, accepting his prize from Captain Barry Conroy and President Dick Bourke
The open competition on the first weekend of May was played in tough windy conditions. Gerard McGeown didn’t find it tough, shooting a brilliant 40pts with a strong 21pts on the back nine. David O’Connell finished runner up having played a very solid round of 39pts.
With plenty of interclub matches taking place, it probably meant some missed the chance to tee it up in the competition.
The winner of Division 1 was Oran Martin. He shot a great score of 40pts with 22pts on the front nine. Second in Division 1 was Conor Farrelly, who shot a score of 39pts which included three birdies.
Darren O’Reilly took the spoils in Division 2 with a super score of 41pts. Darren has shown great form this season, and it showed with a strong 21pts back nine. Patrick Byrne finished second with a score of 37pts.
Division 3 was won on the count back. Gavin Gonnelly shot a score of 39pts, which included a two on the 12th. Paul Heavey finished runner up having also shot 39pts and must count himself unlucky.
The score of the weekend came in Division 4. Pauric Finnegan shot an incredible 46pts on Sunday morning. Pauric had 26pts on the front nine, and most would agree it’s definitely the most difficult of nines.
Eamonn Murphy finished second with a great score of 41pts and, going by his results recently, will find himself winning sooner rather than later.

MANNAN CASTLE LADIES
Conditions were testing with wind, rain, heat and cold all a factor at some point. Angela Evers held firm in the face of stroke play returning, recording a very clean card dotted with a pleasing trio of pars for the best score of the day, a 72 nett. That saw her beating the field by three.
Loraine Delkos finished second in consecutive weeks with a strong back nine adding to a round of 75 to take second place. One behind, Gill Rouiller's sure-footed display of consistent golf, including four pars, took third place on countback with 76 from one other player on the same score.
Congratulations to the winners, and well played to everyone. Great to see so many of our newest members out on the course and participating in the competition.
