s a non-state-funded organisation, SOSAD Ireland relies entirely on the generosity of local communities
SOSAD Ireland have released a statement on the back of news that the Dundalk Darkness into Light has been cancelled for this year due to the organising committee's frustration with the lack of progress on getting a Pieta House presence in the county.
SOASAD said they would like to acknowledge the difficult decision of the Darkness Into Light Committee in Dundalk not to proceed with this year's event due to ongoing challenges in advocating for a physical presence for Pieta within the communities of County Louth.
The organisation said they would like to remind the people of Louth that SOSAD are here to support people, with local services funded solely by the generosity of local communities.
The statement continued: “As a non-state-funded organisation, SOSAD Ireland relies entirely on the unwavering generosity of local communities to sustain and expand its essential services.
“In 2023 alone, our counselling services in Drogheda and Dundalk provided vital support to 807 members of the local community, offering over 9,822 hours of FREE counselling sessions.
“We are dedicated to providing round-the-clock support for the people of County Louth with our 24/7 helpline, available FREE of charge to anyone in crisis or in need of someone to talk to, 365 days a year, on 1800 901 909.
“We emphasise the critical need for mental health support services, particularly considering the high level of suicide within our communities.
“SOSAD Ireland stands unwavering in our commitment to advocating for improved mental health care and support for all.
“Despite the temporary pause of the event, we encourage the community to persist in raising awareness and promoting positive mental health initiatives.
“Together, we have the power to make a meaningful difference and bring hope to those who need it most.
“We extend our deepest gratitude to the local communities and supporters who stand in solidarity with us.
“Together, we will continue to tirelessly advocate for improved mental health care and support services.
