Louth sees rise in incidents of theft from shops

The number of incidents of thefts from shops in the Louth Garda Division rose again in the third quarter (Q3) of this year, according to the latest figures released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

377 incidents of theft from a shop were recorded in Louth in Q3 of this year, up from 358 in the second quarter (Q2), and 309 in the first quarter (Q1). It is also up on Q3 of last year, when 349 incidents were recorded in the Louth Garda Division.

There was also an increase in the number of incidents of theft/taking of a vehicle and related offences in the third quarter of this year, with 86 incidents recorded in Louth, up from 75 incidents in Q2 and 47 in Q1.

Nationally, there was a quarterly fall in the number of theft and related offences recorded, with 19,436 incidents recorded in Q3, compared to 19,522 in Q2.

The number of recorded crime incidents fell across all Garda Regions for 6 of the 16 offence groups in the year to Q3 2025, with for theft & related offences, the highest rate of decrease was -6% for both the North Western and Southern regions.

Over the four-year period, 2022-2025 however, recorded crime incidents of theft & related offences increased nationally, by 18% to 73,352 over the period.
