Tesla’s Model Y refreshed with new exterior design and improved range

Tesla has unveiled an updated version of its Model Y SUV.

Updates to the new car include a new front end, as well as other design cues from the smaller Model 3. Exterior changes include a new single lightbar that runs the width of the front bumper with the headlights embezzled into it alongside new alloy wheel designs, while the back end now comes with a full-width light bar and a redesigned rear bumper and boot lid.

On the inside, Tesla has brought back physical indicator stalks after the previous model did away  with them, opting for buttons on the steering wheel – which should help usability in the cabin. The back seats now fold down electrically and there is a screen located between the two front seats for rear occupants.

In terms of powertrains, this updated Model Y will keep the same Long range battery pack unit as in the old model, along with dual electric motors but the range has now been improved so it can do a claimed 353 miles on a single charge – 22 miles better than the outgoing model. Plus, it will retain a maximum charging speed of 250kW though Tesla has not announced its battery pack capacity or charging times.

Only one trim level will be available from launch, which will be the Launch Edition with all-wheel-drive and the dual motor setup.

Prices start at £60,990 with order books open now. Deliveries are expected to commence in March of this year.
