‘Increased security’ at Golden Globes after New Orleans attack and Tesla blast

The US authorities have implemented “increased security measures” including more officers and security contractors at the Golden Globes, following the vehicle attack in New Orleans and Las Vegas Cybertruck explosion on New Year’s Day.

A heavy police presence surrounded the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles, with a wider and more enforced perimeter around the hotel blocked and barricades placed as Hollywood stars began to descend for the major awards ceremony on Sunday.

It comes after a pick-up truck ploughed through crowds of new year revellers in New Orleans, killing 14 people – including Briton Ed Pettifer, who was the stepson of the Prince of Wales’ former nanny.

The FBI later confirmed an Islamic State flag was found inside the vehicle and explosive devices were discovered nearby.

Meanwhile, a US special forces soldier died in a Tesla Cybertruck that exploded outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas on New Year’s Day.

In a statement given to the PA news agency, Beverly Hills public information manager Lauren Santillana said: “We understand that current national events are very concerning and we are committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment for everyone.

“The Beverly Hills Police Department (BHPD) will continue our increased security measures, including staffing of officers, professional staff, and security contractors during this weekend’s Golden Globes.

“Additionally, BHPD is in constant communication with our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners for updated information.

“We ask everyone to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.”
