A man who was being questioned by gardai after a taxi driver was robbed over the weekend has been charged and is due to appear in court later this Monday, gardai have confirmed.
On Sunday, gardai confirmed an investigation was launched after they were alerted to an incident which happened in the Poppintree area of Dublin at around 1.30am.
"Gardaí received a report that a taxi driver had been threatened at knifepoint by a passenger in his car. A sum of cash was stolen, and the suspect fled on foot. The driver, a man in his 40s, was not physically harmed," said a garda spokesperson.
"In a follow-up operation by local uniformed gardaí, supported by the Armed Support Unit, a man in his 20s was arrested at a residence in the Ballymun area," they added.
The suspect, who was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and questioned at a garda station in Dublin, has since been charged and is due to be brought before the courts.
The man is expected to appear before a court sitting at the Criminal Courts of Justice later this Monday.
