An appeal for help in locating a man reported missing from his home in Dublin on New Year's Eve has been stood down following the discovery of a body, gardai have confirmed.
Gardai had issued a public appeal for assistance in tracing the whereabouts of 65-year-old Patrick Tiernan, who was last seen in the Clonsilla area of Dublin shortly after 3pm on Tuesday.
Concerns were expressed for his well-being at the time and in an update, issued this Thursday evening, gardai confirmed the search has now been stood down.
"Following the discovery of a body of a male earlier today (Thursday) in west Dublin, our missing person appeal in respect of 65-year-old Patrick Tiernan who was reported missing from his home in Clonsilla, Dublin 15 on Tuesday, December 31 2024, has been stood down," said a spokesperson.

No further information has been disclosed publicly by gardai who have thanked members of the public and the media for their assistance with the appeal.
