A woman has been airlifted to hospital after she sustained critical injuries in a road crash this Wednesday afternoon.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the incident which happened at Lisgrey, close to Virginia, County Cavan at around 1.10pm.
"A passenger of one car, a woman aged in her 70s, was brought by air ambulance to the Mater Hospital, Dublin, where she is in a critical condition. The occupant of the second car was hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries," said a garda spokesperson.
The scene of the crash has been preserved for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and the road will remain closed overnight.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to come forward.
