BREAKING: Murder investigation launched after woman found dead at residence
Gardaí discovered the body of a woman at a home in Ballyconnell, County Cavan on Saturday night, 11 January.
Gardaí were alerted to a serious incident at the domestic residence which is in a rural area of Ballyconnell at approximately 9.30pm.
The woman, aged in her 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene and her body has been conveyed to Cavan General Hospital for post-mortem examination.
A man, aged in his 60s, was seriously injured during the incident and was brought to Cavan General Hospital for treatment. He currently remains in a serious but stable condition.

An Garda Síochána has now commenced a murder investigation.
The scene remains sealed off as gardaí conduct their investigation into the incident.
One man, aged in his 30s, has been arrested at a separate location and detained pursuant to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, at a Garda Station in the Cavan area.
Gardaí say that the investigation is being led from an incident room at Cavan Garda Station. A Senior Investigating Officer and Family Liaison Officer will be appointed in due course.
They are appealing for witnesses and those with information to come forward which might shed more light on the incident.
Anyone who travelled in the area of Kilnavert, Ballyconnell, County Cavan on Saturday night between 8.30pm and 9.30pm is asked to provide Gardaí with any available camera footage, including dashcam recordings.
