A food safety alert has been issued across Ireland after several popular ready meals were pulled from shelves due to the possible presence of a harmful bacteria that can cause serious illness.
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has confirmed the urgent recall of Turkey & Ham Dinners sold in Centra, SuperValu, and under the Good Food Locally Sourced label.
All pack sizes, batch codes and use-by dates are affected, and customers are being told not to eat the meals due to the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes.
The dinners were produced by Ballymaguire Foods and have the approval number 4008.
Customers who bought any of the following products are urged to check their fridges and dispose of them immediately:
A spokesperson for the FSAI stated: "Consumers are advised not to eat the implicated Turkey & Ham Dinners."
According to the FSAI, Listeria monocytogenes can cause symptoms such as mild flu-like illness, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea, but in severe cases, it may lead to serious complications. Vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, babies, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk.
In rare cases, the infection can take up to 70 days to develop, though symptoms generally appear within three weeks.
Retailers have been instructed to remove all affected stock and display recall notices at the point of sale, while wholesalers and caterers are being advised not to distribute or serve the products.
