Hollywood star Mel Gibson will return to Meath next weekend to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the iconic Oscar-winning film Braveheart.

Gibson, who directed, produced and starred as William Wallace in the film, will be attending the King John's Summer Prom Festival in Trim where much of the film was shot.

The King John's Summer Prom Festival will take place from Friday, 8 August to Sunday, 10 August and this year it coincides with the 30th anniversary of the film which was released in 1995, making it the theme to this year's festival.

The festival's organisers have said: "With almost 300 performers, the King John Summer Prom Festival is a groundbreaking blend of classical music, film, and community celebration. It’s more than a festival – it’s a moment in Irish cultural history."

Gibson is expected to be on hand to sign posters at Trim Castle Hotel on Saturday morning, 9 August with all proceeds going towards the Irish Actors Equity Benevolent Fund, which provides emergency assistance to people in financial difficulty.

In addition to this, he will attend a number of concerts and a screening of Braveheart on Saturday night alongside other cast members.

There's a lot more to expect from the festival besides Mel Gibson's appearance, with the Irish Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Niall O'Sullivan and many more acts expected to perform.

This is definitely a festival to check out for all Braveheart fans! For more information on tickets and a full line-up of events, you can check the King John Summer Prom Festival website.
