Man in his 60s dies following workplace accident at Tayto factory in Meath

Tayto factory in Ashbourne, county Meath

A man in his 60s has died following what is believed to have been a workplace accident at the Tayto factory in county Meath.

In a statement released on Tuesday afternoon, Tayto Snacks Ltd confirmed there had been a fatal incident at the site in Ashbourne.

The statement said,

"It is with profound shock and sadness that Tayto Snacks Ltd. confirms that a fatal incident involving an employee of an independent potato supplier occurred at our Ashbourne, Co Meath site this morning.

"The safety and wellbeing of all who attend on our site is our highest priority, and we are committed to supporting any investigations into today's tragic incident. The next of kin of the deceased have now been informed, and our thoughts are with their family, friends, and our colleagues as they come to terms with this terrible loss."

The company said that Gardaí and emergency services arrived quickly on the scene and they "will also be working closely with all parties including the Health & Safety Authority."

Tayto managing director John O'Connor said, 

"We are devastated by today's incident and our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues by this tragic loss of life."
