Man arrested off Thailand flight into Ireland after kilos of cannabis found stashed in bag

A man has been arrested after gardaí discovered kilos of cannabis stashed inside his luggage after he disembarked a flight from Thailand into Ireland.

Confirming the seizure, a Garda spokesperson said a man was arrested "following the seizure of 9.2kg of herbal cannabis at Dublin Airport on 19th February 2026".

The drugs haul was uncovered during a joint operation involving Gardaí and Revenue Customs officers at the airport.

According to gardaí, the cannabis with an estimated street value of €183,000 "was discovered concealed and vacuum within the baggage of a passenger who had disembarked a flight from Thailand".

The man, aged in his 20s, was arrested at the scene and detained.

A Garda spokesperson said: "A man in his 20s was subsequently arrested and detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at a Garda station in the Dublin Metropolitan Region."

Gardaí confirmed the man has since been charged.

A Garda spokesperson said: "He has since been charged to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice this morning, Friday 20th February 2026."

The seized drugs will now undergo further examination.

"The seized drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis," a Garda spokesperson said.

"Investigations are ongoing," they added.
