Aer Lingus make big change to carry-on luggage rules ahead of Irish holiday rush

Aer Lingus is introducing a new 10kg carry-on baggage policy for all UK and European flights, the airline has confirmed.

From March 3, 2026, customers can avail of the same 10kg carry-on baggage policy across all Aer Lingus' UK, European and Aer Lingus Regional (operated by Emerald Airlines) flights.

"This means that anyone who books a Plus, Advantage or AerSpace fare can carry on a 10kg bag no matter what the destination. Silver, Platinum and Concierge AerClub members will also now have a 10kg carry-on baggage benefit for all UK and European flights," a statement confirmed.

"Customers who book a Saver fare can still pay to take this bag on board, or check it into the hold for free.

"We've listened to our customers and made the change so that it's easier for you to plan your trips whether it's a short hop or a week in the sun," the spokesperson added.

The Aer Lingus carry-on bag limits are 55cm in height, 40cm in width and 24 cm in depth. All customers can take a small personal item on board for free like a handbag or a laptop bag.

Susanne Carberry, Aer Lingus Chief Customer Officer, said: "Our 10kg carry‐on baggage policy is all about giving customers greater choice, convenience, and flexibility. We know our customers value the assurance that this policy brings. In response to customer feedback, we're now extending this policy across the Aer Lingus Regional network."
