Carrick Swan GAA Club has paid tribute to the help given by former Carrick town councillor Pierce O’Loughlin, who died two weeks ago, in identifying the site for Páirc na nEaláí.

Swan Club Development Officer Sean O’Shea recalled  in  2012 the club approached Cllr O’Loughlin to see if he knew of any land available for purchase within the town boundary.

He said Pierce “couldn’t have been more helpful” and one of the locations they looked at on Ballyrichard Rd. ticked all the right boxes for the club and was the one they purchased.  Cllr O’Loughlin later arranged a meeting between the Swan Club and Carrick Town Council management to discuss the club’s plans.

He is one of many club members and local people thanked for their contributions to the project in the club’s commemorative booklet  marking Páirc na nEalaí’s official opening.
