Special Olympian Declan Foley with his silver and bronze medals he won at the Special Olympics in Berlin at the weekend. Coaches Stephanie Moore and Ger Ryan Meagher were thrilled for the Scoil Aongh
Carrick-on-Suir Special Olympian Declan Foley arrived home on Sunday from Berlin proudly in possession of a silver and bronze medal.
Declan, a pupil at Scoil Aonghusa in Cashel, achieved amazing results amid very strong opposition from riders all over the world.
After a shaky start getting used to a very big horse of about 16.2 hands in height and 7 great quality riders in-his events competing against him Declan did what he always does.
Declan is pictured above being congratulated by his mother Kathleen after winning one of his medals in Berlin
He dug his heels in and put every ounce of his training into action to win a bronze in equitation and a silver in trail ride. A great achievement for a 16 year old “townie” who was never on a horse till he came to school in Scoil Aonghusa , Cashel.
Great credit is also due to his coaches Ger Ryan Meagher, Anita Manton and Stephanie Moore who has trained Declan for a number of years now along with other pupils in Scoil Aonghusa. A big shout out to Tomas and Fiona Ryan of Tipperary equestrian centre for always being so supportive and helpful.
