CLONMEL TOWN 7 BANSHA CELTIC 0
After a very difficult week for Clonmel and its surrounding areas, Clonmel Town returned to action on Sunday last with a comprehensive home victory against a very depleted Bansha Celtic side.
As early as the fourth minute the hosts hit the front, when Michael O’Sullivan turned well on the edge of the box before smashing the ball past Kelvin O’Brien in the visitors’ goal.
Further goals in the first half from Jake French Davis (2), then a penalty from Conor O’Sullivan who followed it up on the half hour mark with a super strike and Keith Browne made it 7-0 at the break.
To be fair to the visitors, Eoghan Byrnes tested Evan Comerford with a great strike from outside the box late in the half, and O’Brien pulled off a magnificent save to deny Jake French Davis his hat trick.
Clonmel Town emptied the bench in the second half and the pace dropped as both teams played out the rest of the game without any more goals.
Bansha Celtic twice tested Evan Comerford through a Tony Egan free and a header from Liam Murphy who did well to get on to an excellent cross from Michael Peters, and the hosts had chances to extend their advantage with Darragh Cronin and Ian Cleary both coming close.
CAHIR PARK 1 TIPPERARY TOWN 0
The two promoted teams faced off at the Park in Cahir, on a Sunday morning of bright sunshine and sweltering heat, which it very difficult for the players to keep up any sustained pace throughout the early parts of the game.
The home team dominated the early stages of the game without creating anything of note, and what half chances they did create were well kept out by the visitors.
The closest either side got to opening the scoring was in the thirty second minute when Cahir Park’s John O’Brien hit the post with a fizzing effort, only to see the visiting keeper palm away the rebound shot.
Level at the break, the hosts took a deserved lead five minutes into the second period when good play down the Park right, saw Jake Kiely put in a teasing cross to the Tipperary area, and in the subsequent confusion, the attempted clearance ended up in the back of the net for an own goal.
Cahir Park controlled the game for most of the rest of the half, and while Town tried hard to get back into the tie, they were not able to fashion any chance of real quality that would get a score for them.
This was a second win on the bounce for the home side, who have re-adjusted well to life back in the Premier League so far.
For Tipperary Town, they will need to get some result and fast, or they could find themselves in a battle at the wrong end of the table very quickly.
