CAHIR PARK
A Shattered Dream
Last week started with excitement and concluded with disappointment, but also with pride in the Men and Women of the Teams of Cahir Park Golf Club.
The joy and pleasure that the Teams of Cahir Park Golf Club brought to all their supporters throughout the summer has to be acknowledged and applauded.
You are truly appreciated by the Club Committees and Club members.
On Wednesday morning, the Men's Pierce Purcell Team, Subs and Managers, John Morrissey and Tom Hickey, were on the road before dawn and heading up the M8/M50 to Knightsbrook Golf Club, Co Meath for practice matches from 10am.
On Thursday, at 11.05 am, the All-Ireland Semi-Finals got underway with Cahir Park playing Ballinrobe G.C.. After some tough matches, Cahir Park Men were the happy group after a tense final match on the 19th Hole saw victory go to Cahir Park 3/2 and the reward of the All-Ireland Final on Friday opposite Spanish Point G.C. who qualified for the Final following their semi-final match v Strabane.
The Ladies Revive Active Fourball Team and Subs and Managers, Mary Lyons and Chris Noonan, arrived at Knightsbrook Golf Club on Thursday for their early morning practice rounds on Friday.
The predicted Yellow Rain Warning for Friday became reality very fast, and the Pierce Purcell Teams played intense golf in very difficult conditions. The Matches concluded again with a group going down the 19th, but this time Spanish Point were the victors, 3/2 the Final result.
Saturday morning was dull, dreary and very cold. Cahir Park Ladies teed off at 10.40am v Gort G.C. in the All-Ireland Semi-Finals of the Revive Active Fourball competition. Matches were close with fabulous Drives, Pitching and Putting on display. The Ladies of Gort came out on top with the result of 3/2 victory to the County Galway Club.
A very emotional Cahir Park Team Captain, Chris Noonan, paid tribute to the Panel for their dedication to the competition in time and expense travelling for practice matches and competitions.
The Panel: Michelle Keating, Emma Keating, Caitlin Fitzgerald, Joanne Quaid, Patricia Browne. Caroline Maher, Deirdre O'Neill, Susie Burke, Miriam Halley, Norma O'Brien, Julie Connolly, Marie Keating, Susan Carey, Breda Keating, Margaret Gill were all presented with Bronze Medals.
Congratulations and thank you Ladies for an amazing summer of very enjoyable competitive golf.
