A special presentation was made at the official opening of Ballingarry Community Café to 21-year-old Aoife McCormack a member of the Irish Women's Darts Team that won the World Darts Federation World Cup in Denmark a few weeks ago.

Aoife, who works in Ballingarry’s Daybreak shop, was presented with a Tipperary Crystal trophy and bouquet of flowers by Cllr Imelda Goldsboro in honour of her success.

Cllr Goldsboro told the official opening function at Ballingarry Community Centre on Sunday that the Irish Women’s Darts team was the first national team other than England and the Netherlands to win the world title at the World Darts Federation World Cup in Esbjerg on the last weekend in September.

“We want to acknowledge how proud we are to have a world champion living among us, said the Fianna Fáil councillor as she made the presentation.

She said winning a world title doesn’t come easily and paid tribute to Aoife for her dedication and commitment to her sport.
“You are an inspiration to all of us. We have no doubt this is only the beginning for you and on behalf of Ballingarry community we would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you and wish you every success. You are our hero, our champion and we are very proud,” Cllr Goldsboro added.

Aoife said she was delighted and very thankful for the presentation made to her.

She is daughter of Denise and Pat McCormack and moved from Wexford with her family to Ballingarry village about six years ago.

Her passion for darts stems from her dad who she watched playing the sport as a child. She first started playing darts 10 years ago and represented Ireland previously in the sport at the age of 13.

Her next big competition is the Irish Open in Killarney in November and she is aiming to compete for Ireland in the Women’s World Match Play in Blackpool in England next July.
