A good spread of clubs come away with awards at the recent Mid Tipperary GAA convention

Thurles Sarsfields were named as Mid Tipperary GAA Senior Club of the Year and Boherlahan Dualla the division’s intermediate/junior club of the year at the board’s annual convention in Horse and Jockey Hotel last week.

Sarsfields won the Mid Senior Hurling Championship and Cahill Cup and were beaten in the county final after a replay while Boherlahan Dualla won the county intermediate and Mid titles, gaining promotion to the Premier Intermediate grade for next year.

All-Star hurler Ronan Maher of Thurles Sarsfields was chosen as senior player of the year in the division with JK Brackens’ Jack Kennedy named as Senior Footballer of the Year.

Young Hurler of the Year is Robbie Ryan from Holycross Ballycahill, while Young Footballer of the Year went to Philip O'Connell of Loughmore Castleiney.

This year’s Hall of Fame Award goes to Willie Fogarty, Moyne Templetuohy who was given a lifetime of outstanding service to his club as a player and administrator. He is the 40th winner of the award which was introduced in 1984.

The awards will be presented at a function in The Ragg in January. At the board’s convention, Treasurer Trish Gavin Moyne Templetuohy informed delegates that gate receipts at €74,391, were up on the previous year’s figure for the same period.

There were no motions down for discussion. The convention lasted 45 minutes – the shortest for many years.
