Davy Russell has made the switch from racing to Dancing with the Stars
Former Grand National and Gold Cup winning jockey Davy Russell is now the outsider of the remaining ten contestants on this year’s Dancing With The Stars at odds of 50/1 with bookies BoyleSports.
With a score of 15 in week two and just 12 on last week’s show, Russell who has spent many years living in Tipperary just outside Cashel, looks almost certain to be out of the race as his fellow celebs continue to impress.
David Whelan remains the 11/8 favourite to win the 2024 edition of the hit RTÉ show after scoring an impressive 24 last Sunday night for his Viennese Waltz, with judges hailing that the Wild Youth songster had ‘dancing in his blood’. With all the contestants taking to the dancefloor once again this Sunday, Whelan has a number of challengers hot on his heels.
Drag Queen Blu Hydrangea was well supported after topping the leaderboard on last week’s show but has since drifted out to 4/1 from 7/2 as canny punters think Katja Mia could be the one to take David Whelan’s crown.
Six O’Clock Show host Katja wowed the judges last week carding a score of 24 and she has been heavily backed into 9/2 third favourite from odds of 7/1 in recent days.
With it all to play in week four, RTÉ golden girl Laura Fox, who started the show as favourite, remains well in contention at odds of 4/1, while Fair City’s Shane Quigley Murphy (7/1) now flies the Carrigstown flag solo as Rory Cowan bowed out last Sunday.
RTÉ icon and fan favourite Eileen Dunne (40/1) has her work cut out to challenge for the title, while Rosanna Davidson (11/1) and Miriam Mullins (10/1) also rank as unlikely winners.
Brian O’Keeffe, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said: “The betting market is really heating up with Katja Mia the subject of a significant gamble in recent days, but while she jockeys for position the winning post looks a distant dream for Davy Russell.”
