Clonmel Rowing Club's Brian Hurley, Rory Keely, Sam Fleming and Cian Mellerick winners of the J18 4x at the Limerick Regatta last weekend
Hallelujah! After incessant rain and wind for the last few months, Limerick Regatta took place last weekend in warm, sunny conditions.
Rowers from as far away as Enniskillen descended on O’Brien’s Bridge for the event. The sun lifted everybody’s mood and the Rowers were happy to be back racing.
Such is the popularity of Limerick Regatta that the event was oversubscribed and this led to all the single scull races and most of the masters events being dropped from the schedule, much to the disappointment of the adult rowers.
Clonmel Rowing Club had a good day on the water, bringing home two pots and a couple of good second places.
The men’s J16 2x of Darragh Noonan and Benjamin Wall had a great ding dong battle before Killorglin finally got the upper hand in the last 100 metres.
The Clonmel men’s J16 4x+ of Edward Wall, Finn Murphy, Dominykas Valuzis and Christopher Kane, with Eimear Sweeney in the driving seat, won their heat and can be proud of their runner-up spot in the final.

Clonmel Rowing Club's Gerald Nugent and James Hurley, winners of club 2x at Limerick Regatta last weekend
In the men’s club 2x, the ever-consistent duo of James Hurley and Gerald Nugent won their heat well.
In the final, the needle had to go into the red zone before they eventually got the measure of the UL and Neptune crews.
The Clonmel men’s J18 4x- of Brian Hurley, Rory Keely, Sam Fleming and Cian Mellerick won their heat and maintained their composure in the final when challenged by Cork Boat Club, Lee Valley and Castleconnell, going on to a two-length win.
The Clonmel girls crews of J18 4x and J16 4x went close enough and should have gained valuable experience from the day.
