Tipperary County Council receives over €766,714 in investment grants under Fáilte Ireland’s EU Just Transition Regenerative Tourism and Placemaking Scheme.
The funding will be split two ways, with €581,687 going towards the detailed design and planning for the regeneration of Castle Street, Roscrea, and €185,027 going towards the feasibility, concept development and detailed design and planning to link the town centre with the riverside enhancing the visitor experience in Carrick-on-Suir.
Tipperary County Council has announced the receipt of funding under Fáilte Ireland’s EU Just Transition Regenerative Tourism and Placemaking Scheme.
The announcement of capital investment in the development of both Castle Street Roscrea and the Carrick on Suir Riverside Regeneration projects will enhance the visitor experience and drive tourism in the Tipperary area.
These funded project announcements along with the announcement of €2,976,548 to the Office of Public Works delivery of interpretation upgrade and introduction of new exhibitions within Roscrea Castle, Damer House, Heritage Centre is welcomed product development that will generate significant interest from local, domestic and international tourists to experience these attractions and activities in Carrick on Suir and Roscrea regions.
Fáilte Ireland’s Regenerative Tourism and Placemaking Scheme aims to transform tourism across 8 counties in Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands and Ireland’s Ancient East by diversifying the local economy and providing new employment opportunities for workers and communities that were heavily dependent on peat.
The scheme hopes to develop the midlands into a leading regenerative tourism destination, creating more reasons for domestic and international tourists to visit the Midlands while also sustaining jobs, businesses and local communities in the region.
Speaking on the new funding, Paddy Matthews, head of Ireland's Hidden Heartlands at Fáilte Ireland said: "Developing the tourism offering in Tipperary has the potential to transform this county and the wider midlands into a world-class sustainable tourism destination."
