Pat English, pictured here with his wife Carol, is the new Mayor of Clonmel
Pat English has been elected as the Mayor of Clonmel Borough District for the fifth time.
He replaces former Mayor, Deputy Michael Murphy, following his election to Dáil Éireann last November.
Cllr English had been serving as Deputy Mayor since Deputy Murphy’s election and his elevation to the position of Mayor was ratified at a meeting of Clonmel Borough District.
He was proposed for the position by Cllr Richie Molloy and seconded by Cllr Siobhán Ambrose.
Cllr Molloy said that this was the fifth time that Cllr English would serve as Mayor. He had been a terrific public representative since his election in 2004 and he would serve the town with distinction once more.
He was involved in many groups and organisations, including the Scouts, and he was a committee member of many festivals, including the Clonmel Busking Festival.
Cllr Molloy said that the huge amount of work he put in as a community activist meant he was the perfect person to start 2025 as the Mayor.
