People illegally living in a Tipperary County Council house have been disturbing their neighbours with anti-social behaviour for several years, a Carrick-on-Suir councillor highlighted at a municipal district meeting.

Cllr Kieran Bourke raised the illegal occupation case with Tipperary County Council Housing staff at the latest monthly meeting of Carrick Municipal District councillors and appealed to the the council to take action to solve the problem.

The Fianna Fáil councillor said he appreciated how dealing with the illegal occupation of council homes was a “difficult and painstaking job” for the council.

But he urged council officials to “find some sort of solution” soon to this case due to the amount of anti-social behaviour being carried out at the property by the illegal occupants. He said the situation was not fair to the misfortunate people living in proximity to this property.

Cllr Bourke pointed out the anti-social behaviour problem was going on a few years.

Deirdre Flannery of Tipperary County Council’s Housing Section said the council worked hard to resolve such cases and promised to update Cllr Bourke on this case outside the meeting.

She said the council worked closely with people illegally occupying council owned homes to move them into a suitable property. The authority has taken illegal occupiers of council homes to court but noted these legal cases do take time.
