Tipperary North TD Michael Lowry had this evening issued a public statement, saying that the concerns raised by the protesters in the now five-day long blockades are being addressed "in a proactive manner".

"I wish to advise that the concerns brought to public attention by hard working, well-meaning individuals are being addressed in a proactive manner.

"I personally, together with my independent colleagues have for the past week had extensive interaction with Government and used our influence in a constructive manner to bring about a package of measures to alleviate the enormous financial pressures due to the spiralling fuel costs.

"Arising from recent discussions and negotiations, the Government has agreed in principle to a very significant funding intervention.

"The measures will include support across the transport, logistics, and the agricultural sectors. Non-affiliated sole traders will have access to this financial support. It is expected that the final details of this package will be signed off tomorrow, Sunday by the representative groups and stakeholders.

"The cabinet will meet tomorrow Sunday at 4pm to finalise the details. The critical aspect of taxation and the cost of fuel at the pumps will be a key part of the cabinet agenda.
