A young Nenagh man, nine-year-old Adwaith Jayesh, has been named one of just 13 winners in the 9th International Annual Maths Olympiad, a World Championship Mathematics Competition with thousands of entrants.
Adwaith, a pupil at Nenagh Community National School, was among thousands of young entrants across the world between the ages of four and fourteen. The remarkable young student was one of 13 winners, and only the second from Ireland with Kayden Temah Denhere from Mullinagar also among the top students.
The competition was delivered by the British Youth International College (BYITC) in late March. His father Natarajan credited his teacher for his son’s winning success.
“It’s wonderful to see my son gaining so much confidence with numbers. His teacher’s encouragement and the BYITC techniques have helped him tremendously. The unique way in which the numbers are taught to him is helping him in a big way.”
The eight‑day online competition, held from 19 to 26 March. The challenge was open to students aged four to fourteen and was free to enter.
The Olympiad requires students to complete 50 questions within one hour, with scoring driven by accuracy and timing. Participants apply abacus, finger, and mental arithmetic theory throughout the exam.
