Two people have been injured after they were hit by a horse on a beach in Co Londonderry.

A man who was struck in the incident in Limavady has serious injuries.

Police were called to Benone Strand at around 10.45am on Sunday alongside the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and the coastguard.

The two victims were taken to hospital after receiving medical treatment at the scene.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “The man’s injuries are described as serious but not life-threatening.

“Our inquiries are continuing, and we would appeal to those who witnessed the collision and exactly what happened to make contact with us on 101, quoting reference number 509 21/09/25.

“We would also be keen to hear from anyone who may have any mobile or dash-cam footage of this or suspected vehicles that may have been involved.”

A 66-year-old has been arrested in connection with the investigation and has been released on bail.
